Create your own PARADISE

As usual this morning I was going to the office. With the headphones on…very sleepy. I was very surprised to see something ” new” on this street I’m going. It’s an ordinary street, apartment buildings on each side, very dull.

I see something and I can’t believe my eyes. I go closer and WOW…here it is..in the middle of the town, on a dull street somebody has built a little corner of paradise. In something that appears to be an old tub I see fishes and on the side two little turtles are resting. There are sea shells all over the place and different plants. This is amazing. The client says OK and the project is ready to go to the printer. After you prepared the file for print you should also keep in mind a few tips:

Always send the entire font families. Even if you’re positive that you only used one typeface variation, supply the suitcase and all accompanying printer fonts. Some fonts may ship with multiple suitcases. If so, provide all of them.

Don’t forget any fonts that may reside in imported vector-based graphics, like Illustrator EPS files. They may not register as being used in your page layout program, but they are required to print. For the best results, convert any type used in FreeHand or Illustrator to outlines before saving and importing the graphic. This way, the font is not required. It’s important to remember that you’re the EXPERT

I felt the need to write this article after a recent experience with a client. Things got very complicated during a project and I wonder how many other designers had similar experiences and how they managed the situation.

I got an email from a client I’ve worked before that was asking for a logo. I was very happy to take the project and since I’ve worked with him before I didn’t sent any contract or asked for down payment.  I was trying so much to please the client and totally missed all standard measures. The client told me he has no idea of what he wants but he will see the samples and go in the appropriate direction.  This didn’t scared me, I’ve worked before with undecided people and everything turned OK. I must ask, how many of you  keep your fonts organized? How many of you install the fonts directly on the operating system? Especially when you are in a hurry. I know how it is but if you want to save time then you have to make a change.

When you work as a graphic designer, fonts are a great resource for your projects so after a while you might find your operating system full with hundreds of fonts. This is the easy way, install them directly in the Fonts folder of your system, but how great and fun is this when the system crashes and ups…you have to reinstall all. As I told you, I’m learning new Adobe tools. Premiere and After Effects are great, there are so many cool things you can do and edit. What can I say..I love to be challenged and I always want to learn more.  For a beginner like me in this area things don’t come to natural yet, I still wonder around and try to figure things out. FIAR is an annual event that takes place in Sinaia in the last week of May. It’s a huge event that  gathers representatives of all major European insurance and reinsurance companies which use this opportunity to meet with their high level counter-parties from Russia & CIS.

This year me and my colleague worked on a huge list of printed materials, web graphics and animations. For 3 weeks we created all from brochures, roll banners, to flash animations and video montage. It wasn’t easy but the results made us very proud. Enjoy!
